La Touche Training is proud to announce its upcoming Expert Witness Conference which will run on the 23 May 2024 in the Gibson Hotel, Dublin. The conference will explore current trends and pertinent issues facing Expert Witnesses.
We are delighted to be joined by Mark Tottenham who is a barrister and the author of A Guide to Expert Witness Evidence and co-host of the popular and renowned legal podcast, The Fifth Court. Mark has a keen interest in expert evidence and will give us an overview of recent case law in the area. As part of his paper Mark will discuss the case of Mr. Bates V the Post Office in relation to the expert evidence.
Mariana Verdes who is a barrister specialising in medical negligence, commercial litigation and arbitration will also be joining us. Mariana is a co-founder of the Expert Witness site, which connects solicitors with the right expert witness. She will discuss the role and duties of an Expert Witness and address the position of single joint experts in Ireland.
We will also welcome Paul Jacobs, Partner and Head of the Forensic & Investigations Services unit in Grant Thornton Ireland. Paul has delivered and led numerous complex financial investigations as well as acting an expert witness in a broad range of high value commercial disputes. He is going to give some tips and guidelines on carrying out an investigation and writing an expert witness report.
Aoife Beirne a barrister who has a broad civil practice, including civil and commercial litigation, property, probate, personal injuries and recovery has kindly agreed to speak to us about disclosure of documentation and reports to experts and review both Irish and UK law on this matter.
We will then be joined by Seamus Sadlier Managing Partner, McCann Sadlier Legal Cost Accountants who will give us some direction on how you should calculate your fees and what a legal cost accountants would consider when reviewing your fee note.
From London, we are delighted to welcome Mark Solon solicitor and founder of La Touche Training, Bond Solon Training and the Expert Witness Institute in London. Mark has substantial knowledge of the law and practice relating to expert witnesses and will speak to us about Expanding your Practice – Working as an Expert Witness Internationally.
Our final presentation of the day will be delivered by Karyn Harty. Karyn is a solicitor and leads the Disputes Practice Group at Dentons Ireland and serves as Global Co-Chair for Disputes for the firm and as a member of Dentons’ regional Innotech committee. Karyn will speak to us about the role of AI in expert evidence and its future.
The Honourable Mr. Justice Michael Peart will chair the event. Judge Peart practised as a solicitor (mainly litigation) for 32 years, and then served as a High Court and Court of Appeal judge from 2002 to 2019. He has spent the last 3 years working as a mediator and arbitrator, helping parties to stay out of court. We are delighted he is willing to share his vast experience and knowledge with us in his role as chair.
