Webinar presented by Professor Abbie Lane.
Stress is regarded as the ‘epidemic of the 21st century’ with significant personal and economic cost. It has adverse implications for wellbeing. Furthermore, the role of stress in the development of physical and mental illness is now well established.
Stress impairs performance in the workplace with the potential for serious consequences. Stressed individuals are more likely to make mistakes and errors of judgment as well as making poor and ill-considered choices. Relationships suffer with the potential to interact negatively with clients, colleagues, staff, friends, and family. The risk of reputational damage is high. So too is the possibility of burn-out.
Given that over 80% of stress related illness is preventable it is vital that we learn to manage the stress of the fast-paced, pressured, and uncertain world in which we live. Stress is not going to go away. Aligned with organisational support, there is a clear onus on practitioners to manage their own stress as well as to safeguard their professional reputation and that of the firm.
