A Coroner’s (Amendment) Bill is given priority status in the Government’s recently announced Legislative Programme for spring 2024.
The Coroner’s Bill will ensure that an appropriate number of Coroners can operate in the Dublin District; and provide that additional temporary Coroners can be appointed to all Coroners districts, if required.
Announced in late 2023, Minister for Justice Helen McEntee promised that the bill will form part of a broader reform of the coronary system. The Department of Justice is currently seeking submissions for Reform of the Coroner Service.
Appearing as a professional or expert witness before an inquest can be a harrowing and challenging experience for many, particularly those in the health care sector.
